update

It is now July 5, 2009, barely six months from today, we shall be holding our Silver Jubilee Homecoming. As of today, we have approximately PhP230,000, still far from the target, PhP600,000.00.

Our batch consists of 200 graduates and i believe only a handful are in the Great Beyond. What is baffling, however, is the fact that only 30 or more of the 200 graduates have made good their commitment to do their share in the cost of the reunion. Hopefully, the numbers and the amount shall balloon very soon and we can ensure a great and joyous occassion come December.

Please find ur names in this list, if u have contributed and ur name is not in the list. please inform me.

if you want the high school reunion to be a truly memorable one and you have not passed to the Great Beyond, now is the chance to be be part of this great endeavour. and unless you want to be considered as having crossed to the Great Beyond, heheheheheh, do something..... para sa batch!

remember the great and majestic Four Pillars

25 years

March 20, 1984.

It has been twenty five years since we walked the Four Pillars.

Full of hopes and dreams, we left the portals of the Ateneo de Naga eager to make a difference and confident that with the catholic jesuit education... we were ready to conquer the world...

armed with the the firm determination, we raged against the many storms in life, we held on to our dreams, even if we faltered and hesitated many times.

we had our friends, families and classmates who believed in us...

just as our teacher first believed that no matter how many times we could'nt get the equations right nor how implausible our arguments were, the ateneo spirit shall make us move on,

.... undaunted and unbowed.

we were impelled by the call for excellence, and indeed we imbibed the ateneo spirit wherever we were.

and anywhere we went, we so proudly bear the seal of excellence, a seal that is distinctively Atenean....

As Ateneans, we are called to a life of excellence. Excellence not for irs own sake but excellence in service.

we were taught that as we strive for excellence, we work for the greater glory of God...
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!

we do not seek glory for its self or for personal aggrandisement. we are here for a cause far greater than ourselves.

we do not work merely for ourselves, we ought to work for the kingdom of God, "seek first the kingdom of God!".....Primum Regnum Dei!

this we remember as we retrace our steps and go back to our roots...

after 25 years, as we sing the Regnum Dei, the Ateneo March becomes more significant as we join together and sing.....

From Isarog to Bikol land to lofty Mayon Peak
Our flag is carried flying high in victory or defeat.
And never have we furled it yet in spite of foeman’s might,
We’ll cheer our men unto the end,
We’ll cheer them as they fight.

Here’s Ateneo’s marching song.
We sing of victory.
From childhood days to youthful years
High shall our purpose be.
Regnum Dei is our cry.
Our fame and glory too.
We’ll fight and win
Or fight and die!
Ateneo for God and you!

Galing Atenista

GALING ATENISTA
EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE

This is a fund drive inspired by the scholarship project of the Ateneo De Naga University President Fr. Joel Tabora S.J.

A collective effort of the Alumni which highlights the Ateneo Spirit of Excellence in Service.

Ateneans are known to excel in various field of endeavour, in the academe, in public service, in the medical profession, in the legal profession and in various field of endeavour. The list may get very long and, yes very boring.

We may have reached pinnacles of power, travelled great distance and scaled far greater heights we can ever imagine. But everything may seem so useless and futile until we really excel in the very thing that matters, the raison d’ etre of our being Ateneans, to be men and women for others.

Thus this project, Galing Atenista, Excellence in Service.

What makes this project different from all the other fund raising activities of the Alumni, our batch project or for any fund drive for that matter?

The sole difference being that this project gives importance to small but constant sharing of blessings. This is very much in accordance with our Christian upbringing of sharing what little we have so that we may bring a big difference to the lives of our brothers and sisters. It was once said, that nobody is so rich that he does not need others nor so poor that he cannot share to others.

How does this project work?

Each one of us may give just 20.00 monthly. This amount collected over a period of one year amounts to 240.00. This amount may seem just a pittance and not sufficient to send a high school student to our beloved Ateneo de Naga University.

Your 240.00 when pooled with the 240.00 of 19 other batch mates amounts to 4,800.00. This amount pooled together with 9 other batches, you have just gathered 48,000.00 enough to send one scholar to the Ateneo High School.
We are sure that we can spare more than 20.00 each per month, which amount is less than the price of one pack of cigarette or even of one ice cold San Mig Lights.

This is a small sacrifice to pay for the great opportunity that awaits the scholars that we shall endow with a great future.

We therefore urge you to pay forward, by taking this small steps in constant journey till we reach our collective apex. This is call for each one of us, to be part of this great endeavour.

For starters, the Board Members of the Alumni Board have committed the seed money of Ten Thousand Pesos to start the project. We have to yet decide our individual pledges which shall all be collected at the agreed time and deposited in a separate savings account together with all the contributions of each batches.

Let us start small and through the group effort and support, we shall make a big difference.

If we can sustain this project, at the end of the year, we shall conduct the raffle of names of contributors who shall win prizes.

This is a small reward compared with the great reward you may claim later on when you meet the Creator.

We shall also reward the consistent contributors by batch and of course the big batch contributors. There shall be monitors and updates shall be periodically issued.

Only the names of the contributors shall be published in the alumni website. The amount given shall not be posted so that we avoid any embarrassments or possible security risk. But if you need individual receipts for tax purposes, that matter may be arranged.

We shall leave the collection mechanism to the Batch Presidents who shall be responsible for the pooling of their resources and coordinating with the Alumni Secretariat.
